Leanna Garfield is a human rights advocate and journalist working toward a better internet.
I’m currently the Social Media Safety Program Manager at GLAAD, building tech company accountability to help combat hate speech, media manipulation, and disinformation against LGBTQ+ people. I am also the founder of Dyke Cinema Club, a film screening and collective in NYC.
Previously, I managed online engagement among the digital rights community at Access Now, a global tech + human rights nonprofit. Before that, I led audience development at Lesbians Who Tech & Allies, and worked as a tech reporter for Business Insider. My work has appeared in Inc, Entrepreneur, Slate, CBS, Tech Policy Press, and elsewhere.
My work is rooted in connecting and informing people, particularly in online spaces and among marginalized communities. I’m skilled in launching and maintaining advocacy resources and services, and meeting audiences where they are. I’m passionate about distilling complex subjects and processes, uncovering untold stories and emerging trends, and making them more accessible for everyone. I’m based in Brooklyn.
